Damon Scott

Needless to say his hard work, level of commitment and obvious talent soon showed everyone that he really did mean business and they have supported him every step of the way.

From an early age Damon’s interest was mainly in serious acting, with his love of Pinter, Shakespeare and Chaucer making him quite an unusual kid.

At the age of 6 or 7 his parents went on holiday and brought him home his first full arm puppet as a present – a monkey, that he named Orlando… and the ‘Monkey Man’ was born.

“I always had a puppet on my arm – like most kids have a teddy”

Through school he kept his love of entertainment alive and on leaving he went to college to study Performing Arts.

Here his love of Musical theatre was born and he soon found himself making trips to London to watch all the shows.

Private lessons in singing and dance skills followed and his dreams were getting ever closer.

To support his time at college he took work as a Children’s Entertainer and found that he absolutely adored working with puppets and had a propensity to make people laugh.

Damon spent weekends trying out his act on customers at his parent’s family run hotel and it wasn’t long till he realised that adult comedy and cabaret was the way forward. Damon finally went professional at the age of 16.

After winning the British Resorts association ‘Search For A Star’ competition in 1999 he was spotted by a BBC cameraman and the documentary, ‘Monkey Man’ soon followed; aired on BBC, which literally shot Damon into fame over night. Worked started pouring in and his career lifted off to ever more stellar heights – with non stop bookings for the next 14 years and a honing and perfecting of his craft that inevitably comes hand in hand with so much experience in show business.

“When Simon Cowell first advertised the new show ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ my phone literally rang off the hook with friends and family telling me to enter”.

Everyone who knew Damon knew that Britain’s Got Talent was the show practically tailor made for his act. Off went his request for an application form and on arriving back home from a skiing holiday he found not one application form on his mat but about 20 awaiting him to fill out. His friends and family were so sure he’d do well at this that they all applied for him too.

Damon’s act with Bubbles the Monkey was slick and perfected so off he went to the initial auditions in Cardiff.

The audition process was long and arduous, but by March of 07 he was performing in front of the illustrious panel of judges and a live audience.

We all know the story from there:

  • How Simon actually looked relieved to see some real talent in front of him. AND GRINNED!!
  • How Amanda Holden couldn’t stop giggling.
  • How Ant and Dec were totally gob smacked.
  • THREE YES’S...

The audience erupted into a standing ovation and Damon went from there to the semi finals. The finals followed and Damon and Bubbles were piped at the post and came second in Britain’s Got Talent. A pair of stars were born.

The UK has taken Damon and his amazing act with Bubbles the monkey and friends to their hearts – his energetic brand of entertainment uses every kind of theatrical technique, from singing, to perfectly timed comedy – to actually making a puppet look not like an extension of his arm but a whole other living being… and as Damon would say – “At first I thought I was the boss in this partnership – now I’m not so sure.” Bubbles is a bit of a diva.

After the finals Damon was thrown into the celebrity spot light and invited to absolutely everything, all star parties, red carpet affairs and has since worked along side the likes of Alan Carr, The Sugar Babes, Tony Christie and west life – the list goes on.

He’s currently working on a TV documentary based around Michael Jacksons ex-pet chimp Bubbles, and is crossing the Atlantic on a regular basis in pre production. Watch this space. This project is set to be huge.

On Famous But Frightened…..

“I’ve experienced lots of paranormal stuff although I do tend to need to rationalise it…… BUT – I believe no proof is necessary for a believer and No Proof is enough for a non-believer! I’m really looking forward to presenting Famous But Frightened – this is going to be a fantastic weekend, raising fantastic funds for a fantastic charity”. - Damon Scott.

When asked what Bubbles thought of his involvement in FBF he said the following…

“I’m bricking it and will be in dire need of a good few banana daiquiris to get me through the night”.

- Bubbles The Monkey.
